Learning to Chant

Gregorian Chant According to the Solesmes Method (1930) is now available as a free download, and also in print.

This book was the standard textbook for chant since it first appeared, and it is easy to see why. It is organized lesson by lesson, systematically, from beginning to end. There's no musicological showing off going on here. It is designed to make the chant readable and beautiful. It remains the best overall explanation of tone, rhythm, Psalm pointing, modes, and much more, according to the method that made Solesmes the standard.

By the way, the beautiful cover shot is taken by Lawrence, OP.
