Papal Mass for John Paul II

Today Pope Benedict celebrated a Mass of intercession on the third anniversary of the passing of the Servant of God Pope John Paul II. He gave a wonderful sermon in which he - again, as he already did at last Sunday's Regina cœli - connected Pope John Paul's life and ministry to the mystery of the Divine Mercy. The Mass was sung entirely (apart from readings and interecessions) in Latin. And as you have seen, the "new" ferula or pastoral staff was again employed; since this was not one of the solemn Easter celebrations, it might be inferred that it will now be used regularly.
